The new names chosen for streets in the first phase of York’s Germany Beck development have been revealed.
Unfortunately, the chosen street names – which include Crimple Crescent, Harden Way, Thornton Road and Washburn Close – have no connection to Fulford or York and the developers behind the 650-home scheme had not sought to engage with the local community before coming up with the names.
Councillor Keith Aspden, Liberal Democrat councillor for Fulford and Heslington, commented:
“It is really surprising that the developers have not sought to consult or engage with the local community in anyway before naming the Germany Beck street names.
“Although it is not a legal requirement to consult, this is a big missed opportunity. Some local residents and the Parish Council who are aware of the names have already raised concerns, as well as a few eyebrows, at some of the names. These include Crimple Crescent and Harden Way, which have no local connection to Fulford or York. This could have been a chance to consult with and engage the existing community, or even perhaps, run a competition at our local schools. I hope that the developers will at least re-consider a few of the least popular names.”Leave a comment
